Joe Gautrey Beats was founded in February 2022 by pop music producer and songwriter Joe Gautrey. At the time of setting up the beat store it was clear that though beat selling itself is already a massive industry in Rap and Hip Hop, it would seem that the Pop genre either is lately to the party of hasn't yet considered the benefit that licensing beats could have to an artists career.
FIRSTLY WHAT IS A BEAT STORE?
A beat store is a catalogue made of instrumentals or "beats" that can be licensed on a non exclusive contract or purchased exclusively to distribute on all major streaming platforms.
HOW DOES LICENSING WORK?
Firstly there are 2 types of licenses that you should know about. The non exclusive license allows you too purchase a license to write over and distribute a beat on all major streaming platforms. This normally contains a 50:50 publishing split with the producer that you are buying the beat off. The big difference with the non exclusive license is that it is a license that doesn't give you exclusive ownership of the beat. So other artists could potentially also buy teh same beat and create a song with it as well. The big benefit with buying non exclusive is beat makers can afford to sell them at a fare reduced price, which if you are on. a budget can free up funds for other aspects of creating a song like marketing or studio time for vocal recording / mastering.
Then with the exclusive license if you are willing to pay more then this license gives you the right to distribute the beat anywhere without the worry of any other artists also using it. publishing splits still apply with the original producer but this can be negotiated.
