THE ORIGIN STORY

THE BEGINNING

From a young age Joe always had a passion for music, spend his school years learning multiple instruments and joining bands in school with his friends. Knowing from such a young he wanted to make music for a living, Joe went down the traditional route of learning music at GCSE level, then going on to do an A level at 'Richard Collyers College - Horsham', then a Degree at 'ACM - Guildford' in Music Production. Though the passion was there by no means was Joe top of the class, excelling at compositional work yet struggling with the academic written work. This meant that Joe only just passed A Level Music Technology and got a respectable 2:1 degree In Sound Production. This wouldn't stop Joe's dedication to pursuing a career in music.

REJECTION

After a couple years writing songs and performing as bassist for Pop Rock band 'Offshore', as well as a short spell releasing and performing as a solo artist, Joe realised that his passion for music resided in the creation of music on a songwriting and production level. So in 2020 Joe took a leap into the deep end. Moving to London with barely enough money to pay rent, knowing that if he was ever to become a music producer, London is a great place to start. Shortly after moving Joe had a massive reality check after going for an interview at a major studio in London where to cut a long story short he was told that he 'wasn't ready' to be producing on that level. It was a tough pill to swallow after spending his whole life to this point working towards getting an opportunity like that, only to blow it.

FREELANCE

After accepting the biggest L of his music career so far, Joe was still determined to keep pushing to making music for a living. This is when everything started to fall into place...

Firstly Joe came across the freelance site 'Fiverr' and figured he could start to list services on there and work remotely. This was an option Joe had not considered till this point but figured with the way the world was moving in terms of technology it made sense to try it. 1 month after signing up Joe got his first couple of orders officially earning his first income as a 'Freelance Music Producer'. Over the next year a couple of orders a month turned into a couple a week, into nearly 1 a day. Creating in itself a nearly full time income for Joe and allowing him to quit his current part time job to have more time to focus on pushing his services. Around the same time he started Fiverr he got accepted for a role as a freelance music producer at 'SAFO Music' in London, A Recording Studio / Artist development centre. This was Joe's first taste of working with artists in studios and is looked back on by Joe as the opportunity that gave him his confidence back to be a music producer after the rejection earlier that year. Finally things were heading in the right direction!

THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL

1 Year into working as a freelance music producer Joe was aware to make this sustainable long term multiple sources of income would be required. In the back on his mind he had always wanted to start a youtube channel but could never figure out what content he would make and how he would go about growing a channel. So in the summer of 2021, Joe started to create some logic tutorials for the channel which were scheduled over the summer to upload. After about 30 videos the channel sat on 50 Subscribers which wasn't encouraging but a sign Joe needed to think of a more original approach to grow his channel. Eventually he decided to start recording his 'Music Producer Reacts' series where he would give his 'Professional Opinion' as a music producer on new music when released. Immediately the channel started to grow quicker right until the unthinkable happened. After hearing of ABBA'S return, Joe made sure he was the first producer in the content niche to jump on the opportunity to react to ABBA's new music, a decision which paid off in a big way! Not only did the 2 videos he did on the topic get a combined 150,000 views in 1 week but he also gained enough subscribers and watch time to get monetised and start earning money as a youtube content creator. Being monetised meant that Joe was able to start creating more content he was passionate about such as Tutorials, Music Marketing, and music producer advice videos which he could earn a nice side income from. Currently today the channel sits at a loyal following of 6,000 subscribers and has established himself as a very respectable channel in his niche.

YOU CAN SELL BEATS?

At the beginning of 2022 Joe was looking to expand his sources of income as a producer once more. It was at this time that Joe discovered the beat selling site Beatstars, which to this point Joe wasn't aware even existed (somehow...). Fortunately as Joe is your typical producer that likes to start projects then leave them siting on his hard drive the foundations were there to start growing his very own beat store. Like with everything, Joe had to find his niche when selling beats and as he is a Pop producer it only made sense to find it in Pop. A genre which in itself to his surprise was considered niche in the beat selling world. In the first 2 months Joe uploaded nearly 40 beats and made no sales... This would not put Joe off continuing the grind as from his experience in growing his freelance services these things can take time. 3 months in Joe made his first beat sale which any beat maker would agree is up there with the best feelings as a producer. Like Fiverr, that 1 sale a month became 2, which became 4 a month etc... As of July 2023, 18 months on, Joe has now reaching over 350 beats in his catalogue, had his beats streamed over 400,000 times on Beatstars and youtube and has established himself as one of the fastest growing pop beat makers on the market today.

WHAT NEXT?

Joe is always thinking forward when it comes to the business side of music and there is a lot you can expect from him in the near future. As he continues to grow his beat store with the ambition of achieving 1 million streams on beat stars and 1000 beats uploaded to his catalogue. He also has his sites set on becoming a top rated seller on Fiverr and growing his youtube channel to over 10,000 subscribers by 2024. If what you have read so far is anything to go by you know its all only a matter of time!
